A New Chapter: Grace in the Everyday
It’s been a few months since I last blogged — since September, actually. Life has moved fast, in ways I never quite anticipated. I started a new job and relocated from Johannesburg to Cape Town, stepping into a new chapter filled with excitement, challenge, and, honestly, a fair share of exhaustion. Some days are long and tiring. I find myself navigating unfamiliar routines, learning new colleagues’ rhythms, and figuring out what it means to settle into a new city. But in the middle of all this, I’ve been journaling to God every morning. These quiet moments — my pen on paper, my thoughts laid bare — have been my anchor. It’s in these early morning reflections that I notice the grace woven through the ordinary. The grace in surviving a long day at work. The grace in the simple act of showing up. The grace in trusting that even small steps in unfamiliar territory matter. As I embrace this new season, I’m learning that growth doesn’t always look like dramatic change. Sometimes, it’s quiet and steady, like morning light spilling into a room. Sometimes, it’s patience with ourselves when the days are hard. And sometimes, it’s simply being faithful to small practices — journaling, praying, reflecting — that keep us connected to what truly matters.I’m excited to return to blogging, to share my journey, and to reflect on what God is teaching me in this next chapter of life. If you’re navigating a season of change, I hope this encourages you to notice the small graces around you — and to trust that growth is happening, even in the midst of the ordinary.
Practical Reflections: Finding Grace in Change
If you’re navigating a new season — a move, a new job, or just life feeling a little heavier — here are a few things I’ve found helpful:
• Start Your Day With Reflection or Journaling
Even five minutes of writing your thoughts, prayers, or hopes to God can bring clarity and peace before the day begins.
• Notice the Small Moments of Grace
Whether it’s a kind word from a colleague, finishing a task that felt overwhelming, or simply breathing through a tough moment, these are reminders that growth is happening.
• Give Yourself Permission to Rest
Life in transition can be exhausting. Grace includes rest — don’t underestimate the power of a quiet evening, a short walk, or a pause to just breathe and reflect.
• Celebrate Small Wins
Adjusting to a new city or job isn’t always dramatic. Celebrate the tiny victories — finding your way around, making a new connection, completing your morning journaling.
• Stay Connected Spiritually
Practices like prayer, journaling, scripture reflection, or even a short devotional can anchor you in faith and provide guidance in the midst of uncertainty.
